Does CLIL Time Pay Off? Young CLIL Learners’ Oral Proficiency in the Spanish Context

Date: 3 March 2026

Time: 14.30 CET

Speaker: Raúl Azpilicueta-Martínez, Public University of Navarra (UPNA/NUP); NAVLAT Research Group.

Abstract

In young-learner settings, does increased CLIL exposure translate into higher oral proficiency in English? And, if so, which dimensions are most sensitive? Drawing on empirical work in the Spanish context, this talk synthesises evidence on these issues, while also considering relevant factors, including negotiation of meaning, crosslinguistic influence, and motivation. Rather than offering definitive answers, the goal is to frame robust findings and trigger important questions for research, pedagogy and policy-making.
